Create your own AI companion on Lerk AI
Before you start
The ready-made catalog on Lerk AI is large, but sometimes you have a particular idea in mind: a certain look, a certain sense of humour, a particular way you met. That is what the creator is for. You make the choices, and Lerk AI turns them into a companion with a portrait, a personality and a memory of their own.
Creating the character needs a Lerk AI account with enough stars. As of October 29, 2026, one character costs 60 stars. Stars come from the one-time welcome gift for verifying your email, from the monthly allowance on the VIP and Lerker plans, and from star packs, which only subscribers can buy. What Lerk AI costs today has every plan and star price.
The six steps
The companion creator walks you through six short steps.
- Style. Realistic, with a photographic look, or anime, with an illustrated one. Here you also choose whether you are creating a woman or a man.
- Appearance. Ethnicity and skin tone, each picked from a set of options.
- Hair. Hairstyle, eye color and hair color. Styles range from long, wavy or braided to a short pixie style, and for men from a fade or curls to slicked back.
- Body. Build and proportions, from slim or athletic to curvy or muscular.
- Personality. The part that shapes every conversation: their name and age, their temperament (shy, sweet, playful, caring, witty, confident or mysterious, among others), their occupation, how the two of you know each other, from strangers to friends to dating, and what they are into, such as gaming, cooking, reading or photography.
- Summary. Everything on one screen to check over before your companion is made.
When you confirm, Lerk AI makes your companion's first portrait, and they are ready to chat. Every companion must be an adult: the age you give has to be 18 or over.
Realistic or anime?
The first choice is the one that changes the most. A realistic companion looks photographic in their portrait and in every photo you make of them later; an anime companion is drawn in an illustrated style. Both get the same long-term memory and the same two chat modes, so the decision is mostly about which look you enjoy coming back to.
If you can't decide, browse a few of each in the catalog first. Our guide to anime and realistic AI companions compares the two styles in more detail.
Choosing a personality that chats well
Looks are what you see first, but personality is what you talk to. A few things we have found in our own chats with companions:
- Pick a temperament that matches the chats you want. A shy companion opens up slowly and rewards patience; a playful or confident one takes the lead sooner. Neither is better, but they make for very different evenings.
- Give them a life. An occupation and a couple of interests give a companion things to talk about on their own. That matters most in Texting, where they are out living their day and message you about it.
- Choose how you know each other with care. Starting as strangers gives you the slow build of getting acquainted; starting as partners skips straight to familiarity. The relationship still moves through its stages as you talk.
- Mix, don't stack. A caring companion with a witty streak is more interesting to talk to than one where every choice points the same way.
Once you start chatting, the mood setting (Flirty or Spicy) shapes the tone on top of the personality, and you can change it whenever you like.
After you create
Your companion appears in My Creations, a list only you can see. Characters you create are private to your account: no one else can find them, see them or chat with them, and you can delete a character whenever you like.
From there, a created companion works like any other:
- Chat in Texting or Roleplay, with long-term memory in every conversation.
- Make photos of them in the studio, and turn a photo into a short video with sound. Photos and videos on Lerk AI covers how that works and what it costs.
Can I create an AI girlfriend from a photo?
No. Lerk AI doesn't accept photo uploads, and that is a deliberate rule rather than a missing feature. Every companion is a fictional adult designed with the options above, and none is based on anyone who exists. We think that is the right rule: nobody can have an AI character made of them without their say, and every image on Lerk AI stays fully AI-generated.
In short
You design a companion by choosing their features, not by copying anyone. Every companion on Lerk AI is an AI character, and every one is an adult.
