Guide
Getting started with Lerk AI
1. Open Lerk.ai and confirm you're 18 or over
Lerk AI is a website, not something you install. It works in any up-to-date browser on a phone, tablet or computer.
- Go to Lerk.ai.
- On your first visit you'll see an adults-only notice. Confirm that you're 18 or over (or older, where local law requires it).
- You land on the home feed of companions. Their cover videos play when you stop scrolling, so take a look around before you sign up if you like: browsing is free.
Every companion on Lerk AI is a fictional adult AI character, and every image and video is generated by AI.
2. Create a free account
You need an account to chat, and creating one is free. Lerk AI lets you sign up with email, Google or Apple.
- Choose to sign up, then pick a method.
- With email, enter your address and a password. Lerk AI sends a confirmation link; open it to finish setting up your account.
- Once your email is verified, Lerk AI adds a one-time gift of 120 stars to your account (one claim per device). Stars pay for photos, videos and creating characters.
Your conversations sync to your account, so you can start on your phone and carry on at your computer. A free account includes browsing, chatting with a limited number of messages every 24 hours, and those welcome stars. What the paid plans add is covered in our pricing guide.
3. Find a companion on Explore
Explore is the full catalog of ready-made companions.
- Use the filters to narrow things down: Gender (Female or Male), Style (Realistic or Anime) and Age.
- Tap a companion to read their profile and get a feel for their personality.
- Save any you like to your Favorites, so they're easy to find again.
The more companions you open, the more Explore leans toward your type. Not sure which style you'd enjoy? Our guide to anime vs realistic companions helps you choose, and the AI boyfriend guide covers finding a man.
4. Start your first chat
Open a companion's profile and start a chat. A couple of settings shape the whole conversation.
- Pick a mode. In Texting, the companion is out living their life and messages you, with no narration. In Roleplay, you're in the scene together and they describe what they do as well as what they say. The mode stays the same for that conversation; to try the other, start a new chat.
- Set the mood, now or later. Flirty is warm, playful and romantic; Spicy is bolder and more direct. You can change the mood from the companion's panel at any time during the chat.
- Choose an opening scenario, or don't. Before your first message you can pick a scenario that sets the scene, and shuffle for a different one. Or simply say hello.
- Send your first message. A detail or two about yourself, or your day, gives the companion something to work with. A single message can be up to 2,000 characters.
Each conversation keeps its own long-term memory, so the companion can bring back what you talked about before. In your profile you can also set a nickname for companions to call you instead of your username. Texting, Roleplay and mood explains the settings in more depth.
5. Ask for a photo
Photos are generated to match the companion's look and paid for with stars.
- Ask for one in the chat, or tap the photo button.
- Check the price in stars, shown before you send. As of October 29, 2026, a photo costs 60 stars.
- The photo arrives in your chat once it's ready.
If a generation fails or is blocked by a safety check, its stars come back automatically. Now and then a companion also sends a surprise photo as a locked card with a blurred preview, which is yours to keep once you unlock it. There's also a studio for photos from presets or your own prompt and short videos with sound; photos and videos on Lerk AI covers both.
6. Create your own companion (optional)
If you'd rather design someone, open the companion creator. It takes you through six steps: style, appearance, hair, body, personality and a final summary. Lerk AI then makes their first portrait, and they're ready to chat.
Creating a character uses stars (60 stars as of October 29, 2026), and what you create stays private to your account: nobody else can see or chat with them. Creating your own AI companion walks through each step.
Languages
Lerk AI is available in English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese. You can switch language from the Language option in the site menu, and you can change it again whenever you like.
If you reach the free message limit
A free account includes a limited number of messages every 24 hours. When you've used them, Lerk AI tells you and shows a timer for when they come back. You then have two choices:
- Wait for the timer. Your free messages return when it runs out, and your conversation picks up where it left off.
- Upgrade to a plan. The VIP and Lerker plans include unlimited messages, plus a monthly allowance of stars.
Stars don't buy extra messages: they pay for photos, videos, unlocking photos and creating characters. Lerk AI's current prices are on our pricing page.
